What is a WIFI ?
Wifi is a wireless network which uses radio waves, just like cell phones, televisions and radios. In fact, communication across a wireless network is a lot like two-way radio communication. A computer's wireless adapter translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection. The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter. The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices. They transmit and receive radio waves, and they convert bits and bytes into radio waves and convert the radio waves back into bit and bytes. But WiFi radios have a significant advantage over other radios, they transmit at much higher frequencies which enables the transmission of much more data and much faster.
What is a WIFI Phone ?
A phone with wifi adds a new dimension to the standard or regular phone. In addition to making and receiving calls and having similar features as regular phones, the wifi phone has greater retrieval capabilities and wider internet access. There is no need for a telephone line to connect to the Internet. A Wifi Phone uses wireless technology.
Development of WIFI Phone Technology
Whilst it has been available in hospitals for years, consumer options for the Wifi phone technology are still limited to access points and designated hotspots from where the phones will work with the wifi connection. There are still a few teething problems to be found with WiFi phone technology. You cannot roam between hotspots with your phone and still receive WiFi calls, although you will still be able to make and receive normal calls with your phone. A lot of phones have been found to shut of the WiFi connection when not in use to conserve energy, thereby missing incoming calls, but these problems will soon be ironed out if this has not already happened.
