What is Windows Mobile ?

Windows Mobile is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft that is used in smartphones and mobile devices.   The current and last version is "Windows Mobile 6.5".   It is based on the Windows CE 5.2 kernel, and features a suite of basic applications developed with the Microsoft Windows API.   It is designed to be somewhat similar to desktop versions of Windows, feature-wise and aesthetically.   Additionally, third-party software development is available for Windows Mobile, and software applications can be purchased via the Windows Mobile Marketplace.

What is Windows CE ?

Windows CE officially known as Windows Embedded Compact and previously also known as Windows Embedded CE, and sometimes abbreviated as WinCE) is an operating system developed by Microsoft for embedded systems.   Windows CE is a distinct operating system and kernel, not a trimmed-down version of desktop Windows.   It is not to be confused with Windows XP Embedded which is NT-based.

What is Pocket PC ?

A Pocket PC is also known as a Windows Mobile Classic device.   It is a hardware specification for a handheld-sized computer, personal digital assistant (PDA), that runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile Classic' operating system.   It has some of the abilities of modern desktop PCs.   Thousands of applications exist for handhelds adhering to the Microsoft Pocket PC specification, many of which are freeware, which in practise means free subject to some limitations and conditions of use.
